01Our Story

A warm corner of St Albans, since 1996.

A fresh chapter for a much-loved cafe — under new ownership since 2024.

Cafe Roma has been part of St Peter's Street since 1996, serving the St Albans community for nearly three decades. In 2024, Velina took over — bringing a decade of experience as a store manager at Costa, and a genuine passion for great coffee and warm hospitality.

Under her care, the cafe has a cosy atmosphere, genuinely warm service, and proper espresso — with fresh energy and small touches that make every visit feel considered. Whether you're stopping in on your walk to work or settling in for the afternoon, you're welcome to stay a while.

Bacon baps and almond croissants, mostly heading straight out of the door.

Jacket potatoes, BLTs and fresh sandwiches, made to order. The street fills up.

Cannoli, carrot cake and Eccles cake, with a pot of Earl Grey to go with it.

Last orders

Milkshakes, gelato and the last of the pastries. Beans by the bag if you want to take Roma home.

St Albans Cathedral

Britain's oldest site of continuous Christian worship. A short walk south from the door.

The Clock Tower

The only remaining medieval town belfry in England, built around 1405.

Verulamium Park

Once Verulamium — Britain's third-largest Roman city. Green lawns over ancient mosaics.
